About D'Urville Island

D’Urville Island is the outermost island in the Marlborough Sounds. The island is separated from the mainland by the dangerous waters of French Pass, known as Te Aumiti. The island is named after French explorer Jules Dumont d’Urville. The Māori name is Rangitoto ki te tonga.

How to get to D'Urville

D'Urville Island is accessible by boat from French Pass which is two & half hours drive from Nelson and two & half hours drive from Picton. A shuttle service can be arranged to transport up to 11 people to French Pass from Picton. D'Urville Island can also be accessed by float plane from Picton or Wellington. The nearest airports are Nelson or Blenheim.
